Before we dive in, THANK YOU for being patient with me! I got so many DMs asking how our first flight went and if we have any travel tips, but I really wanted to enjoy the time with my family while I was there. Trips are always a little tricky because there’s so much to share, but I also don’t want to be on my phone and computer too much, you know?
But now that we’re back, let’s CHAT. Overall, it went really well! There were a few stressful moments mixed in but ultimately we were really prepared and Charlie did great. Here are a few of the items I’m very grateful we had with us…
First of all, this diaper bag is AMAZING. We technically have the previous version but it’s super similar and so handy. There’s a spacious pocket, a detachable fanny pack portion on the front, a built in changing pad, a binky holder… it has it all.
For feeding purposes, we packed bottles, burp cloths, bibs, and this formula dispenser inside. The dispenser made it so easy to mix the pre-measured portion into a bottle with water we bought at the airport.
We also got these pacifier clips which were essential in helping us keep his pacifiers from falling on the ground every time he pushed it out of his mouth.
And even though the diaper bag has a built in changing pad, we packed this travel one with a few diapers and a travel pack of wipes so we could just bring that into the tiny plane bathroom instead of our whole huge bag. 10/10 recommend doing that.
I also recommend getting this particular onesie because the magnets make changes super easy and it’s convertible - so you can have his feet free/pair with socks when it’s in a baby carrier or you could cover his feet for normal sleep time.
And of course, bring backup outfits for both you and your little one… just in case. You never know when a spit up or blow out will get on both of you!
What stroller/carriers did you bring?
If you’re in my Baby Talk broadcast channel in IG, you might remember that I asked for travel stroller recommendations because I got so nervous about bringing our one and only Nuna stroller.
Luckily, dear friends of ours let us borrow their Doona for the trip and I absolutely get the hype now. It was really nice to have a carseat and stroller all in one handy contraption for the entire trip.
We ended up buying a seat for Charlie on the way there because we were (*I was) really anxious about traveling with him, so we actually brought the Doona on board with us for that portion of the trip… and honestly, none of that was necessary. I’m really glad we didn’t spend that money on the flight home, especially since that flight was more expensive.
It was helpful to have a whole row to ourselves for that first experience, but he didn’t want to be in the carseat most of the time, he shouldn’t be in there for more than 2 hours at a time anyway, and our flight home was totally fine without it.
You know what was necessary though? The Solly Wrap! Even if you’re not going to wear your baby when you board, I recommend putting the wrap on beforehand so you’re all set up when you’re on the plane.
He spent the majority of time on both flights snuggled up against me in the Solly. It was the easiest way to get him to fall asleep, and when he got fussy, I could easy stand up and bounce him without worrying about unexpected turbulence or someone knocking into us.
And because it’s just cloth, it was comfortable to sit in for an extended period of time. It’s absolutely the move. (I also think my code LAKESHORELADY20 still works too!)
