May Roundup: purchases, gifts, tv shows, and more
Plus some thoughts about why it can feel so hard for postpartum moms to leave their babies and what NOT to say - even if you want to.
Happy Saturday!
Thank you thank you for all of the birthday love this week! I especially appreciated all of the lovely feedback on this post about getting older. It was really cathartic to write all of those thoughts out.
We ended the day at our favorite pizza place with Charlie and my heart was so so happy. I’m so excited for what 38 has in store!
Favorite May Purchases: I have a newfound love for my Nespresso machine now that I’m a mom, so I got new pods and vanilla syrup so I can make homemade iced lattes. Delicious. I also restocked our GoHydrate stash because we can never be without them. Use code LAKESHORELADY for 30% off!
I got Charlie this short sleeve set and this long sleeve set for family photos next week -and I threw this little knit set in too because HOW ADORABLE?!
I also got more Vitamin D Drops to put in Charlie’s formula, this a cute Michael Jordan book, and new dog bowls for Luna because… it was time. Oh, and I ordered this top but it hasn’t arrived yet! I’ll update you when I gets here.
Favorite Giftings:
The fact that Hill House gifted me this white dress (seen here), this striped dress (seen here) and this printed dress (seen here) makes me want to pinch myself. I am such a huge superfan and have purchased so many of their dresses with my own money, so that box made my whole month!
My other favorites were this Mom Of The Year hat and sweatshirt from Favorite Daughter. They’re my first pieces of Mom merch and I’ve been wearing them literally every day since I got them. Such a good gift idea for a new mom in your life! (The hat is pictured with Biom wipes which are my new kitchen essential. Nontoxic and skin safe too!)
I also got the new Merit Tinted Sunscreen (so light and goes so well with my other products from them), a set of pajamas from a new-to-me brand (crazy soft), Earlybird gummies (haven’t tried them yet, but I’m excited!) and this Brumate tumbler which has officially replaced my Stanley. Guys. It’s LEAKPROOF. Such a game changer!
Favorite TV Shows: Our favorite this month have been Top Chef, The Studio, and Sirens. We haven’t finished Sirens yet so we’re still not quite sure what we’re watching… and yet it’s so entertaining?? We’re into it.
I’ve also been watching Summer House, which is a staple for me, as well as The Valley, which has soooo much drama this season. I prefer Summer House because I’ve been watching it longer and I like so many people in the cast, but also because the Jax/Brittany stuff on The Valley makes me so sad. I also started season 2 of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and I don’t know if I can finish it. These people are CRAZY.
Favorite Podcast: If you aren’t listening to Good Hang with Amy Poehler, do yourself a favor and start now. It’s THE BEST.
What not to say to a postpartum mom who needs to leave her baby:
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from this reel that’s going viral, it’s that talking about our experiences can make us all feel so much less alone. And in a lot of cases, people/society/the world might make postpartum moms feel unhinged… but are you really? Or do you just have a new perspective based on everything you’ve been through to bring this new human into the world?
