Whenever something gets really popular, it inevitably becomes a little polarizing. And even as a “newer” Swiftie, I found myself getting a little defensive this past week.
And no, I’m not talking about those of you who just simply don’t connect with Taylor Swift or didn’t like the album. We all have different tastes and that’s fine.
But whenever I hear “she’s bad” or “that album is terrible” or “you have no taste”, it strikes a different chord. And it makes me think… when I don’t connect to something, do I say those things?
I definitely did when I was younger - mostly about country music or football, two things that I really struggle to get into. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve made a concentrated effort not to. I either don’t say anything or I say “it’s not for me” and move on.
Because if something makes you happy and/or makes you feel less alone, who am I to diminish that?
There is a distinct difference between expressing your opinion and making someone feel small for theirs.
So this is your reminder to like what you like! If you’re like me, blast TTPD on repeat. Continue to dissect the lyrics all weekend. Listen to a pop culture podcast. Read the new Emily Henry book. Whatever sparks joy!
PS. You can read my initial thoughts on The Tortured Poet’s Department here - even though my top songs have shifted since then. HOW did I miss Guilty As Sin initially? I am OBSESSED.
Weekend Links:
Whether you’re looking for Mother’s Day gifts or not, I highly recommend checking out the Our Place sale. I got my mom this oven pan for her birthday and I can’t even tell you how many times she’s told me she loves it. She calls me whenever she cooks something new on it 🥹 It’s nontoxic, nonstick and SO easy to clean. 10/10 gift idea.
I also own/love/recommend the Perfect Pot (so lightweight), Wonder Oven (we use this every day) and Splendor Blender (smartest design that makes it easy to clean). All up to 40% off!
If you’re shopping for someone who already has everything, I always suggest a Hotel Lobby candle. The packaging is beautiful, the scents never miss, and it’s a cool female founded small biz!
Before we move on from gifts, there are a bunch of sales in my Flagship shop this weekend. Get 30% off beautiful leather bags and my favorite jean jackets from ABLE, 15% off my LED Mask, 10% off my Anti Acne Pen (literally life changing), and 20% off the best planners from Simplified!
I recently found this Instagram account that creates reels of interiors inspired by movies/tv shows. I think The Parent Trap and The Summer I Turned Pretty are my favorites so far but they’re all SO GOOD.
It’s imperative that we all understand just how much extreme abortion bans are effecting pregnancy and miscarriage care 💔
I finally got a Tula code! Their cleanser has been my favorite for years and years - it really is worth the hype. I also love Claycation Mask (it rolls on!) and their cooling eye balms (they feel amazing, especially in the morning). Just enter LAUREN15 for 15% off!
I *need* to make this lemon version of muddy buddies. Woah.
While I was initially considering a pair of Airpods Max, I have learned that a lot of people love these Sony headphones and these Bose headphones - and they’re both less expensive than the Apple ones, and they’re on sale! One might be a birthday present to myself…
This video made me laugh out loud. (But really, artists don’t owe your children their art.)
Looks like our girl likes to support small businesses because she was spotted in this skirt and this skirt from PopFlex by Blogilates during rehearsals!
I caved and bought this $20 blouse that looks like this $185 top 😱
I still can’t believe Foxtrot closed and I want more tea on what happened - but in the meantime, my friend Kit is gathering small businesses and employees to support here!
Have a great weekend!!
