A quick moving update
...what's going on in our country, and more weekend links
What a WEEK! I honestly can’t believe that we moved last Friday - it feels like we’ve already been in our new house or so much longer. Adam is the kind of person who likes to unpack as much as possible as soon as possible, so we are actually pretty settled already. I have a few bins I still need to sort through and we’re still waiting on a few pieces of furniture we ordered, otherwise we just have some decorating left that we can do over time.
And even though we’e only been here a week, I’m still surprised at how much I like it. I don’t think I realized how nice it would be to have so much space. Charlie can be napping in his room and Adam and I can have a full conversation and cook and make noise in the kitchen! What a concept! 🤣
It also doesn’t hurt that our house is really beautiful - and so is the street we live on. The sidewalks and fall foliage makes it feel similar to our Lincoln Square life… just a lot quieter! Turns out, the quiet is actually really calming and it honestly feels like home already. I keep getting emotional about the fact that this is where Charlie will grow up! Grateful is an understatement.
What I’ve Purchased Recently: As you can imagine, all purchases have been home related recently! I especially love this arched cabinet, these counter stools, this sideboard (on sale!) and this fruit tray. All are so pretty!!
What’s On My Mind: It’s not lost on me that, while we’ve found a little bit of peace recently, ICE is literally terrorizing our communities. I feel like there is a new horror every day and I am having a really hard time understanding how anyone could be okay with a child begging for them not to take his mother, masked men kidnapping a 15 year old girl, racially profiling and detaining a veteran, killing a dog, tackling a producer to the ground in my old (and very safe) neighborhood, following/abducting citizens, detaining moms outside of their children’s school, targeting nannies who are with children they’re watching at playgrounds… I mean the list goes on. I just found out that a local car wash was raided and the owner’s husband was detained. She is 7 months pregnant with an 18 month old at home and has no idea when they’ll be able to reopen. Like… what are we DOING?! Where is our humanity?
It feels like we’ve learned absolutely nothing from history, especially considering we’re being gaslit into thinking these texts are just edgy jokes. I feel infuriated and on the brink of tears on a daily basis, but I am holding out hope that people from all political affiliations will start to see what’s happening and speak out. It’s gone too far already.
What I’m Watching: As you can imagine, we haven’t had a ton of time to watch tv - but we caught up on The Great British Baking Show last night! Tom and Jasmine are my favorites, but Toby is climbing up the ranks too!
What I Can’t Get Enough Of: I love pretty much everything about our kitchen, except for the fact that our enormous freezer doesn’t make ice!! We love cold drinks so we’re considering getting a countertop ice maker like this viral one or this smaller one - but in the meantime, I ordered this little $14 solution… and it’s kind of great?!
We also got these curtains for our front window and they’re BEAUTIFUL. A great way to get some privacy - and deter Luna from barking at nice people going for walks 🤣
What I’m Listening To: I know I’ve mentioned this before, but if you’re not listening to Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang, you gotta start. All of her guests are incredible and it’s just such a mood booster.
What’s In My Cart: I know I shouldn’t be buying MORE shoes after getting rid of a bunch during the move, but… these clogs are on sale! And I know a ton of you have them because my DMs blow up with rave reviews and they’re a bestseller every time I share that they’re marked down.
Weekend Links:
Speaking of bestsellers, I wore this cardigan the other day and you all went nuts for it! It was a total impulse purchase that worked out really well because the quality is amazing, especially for the price. I think I’m going to get it in stripes too!
If regular space heaters make you nervous too, I highly recommend this fan and heater that’s on sale right now. We’ve had an older version for years now and it comes in handy in both the summer and winter.
Oshkosh has recreated some of their iconic corduroy prints from the 80s and 90s - how adorable?!?
Alice & Wonder usually focuses on Chicago goodies, but their new “Feels Like Home” collection also includes NYC, Boston, California and Texas!
I know I’ve raved about this deodorant, but we recently got the body wash too… get ready to see it on ALL my gift guides. You can use code LAURENN15 too!!
My favorite drawstring jeans are 50% off! They are so wildly comfortable - I have them in 3 colors! Also doesn’t this stripe sweater remind you of old school Gap?
Loooove this dress for holiday events. Pregnancy and postpartum friendly too!
I keep hearing really good things about these jeans - and they’re only 30 bucks right now!
Have a great weekend!

The first thing we noticed after moving from the city (south loop) was the quiet. 10 years in the suburbs and we still remark on it.
